Leonardo da Vinci , great artist and scholar of the Renaissance, universal genius : painter , engineer , architect, drew monuments, machines that were realized only many centuries later. Leonardo da Vinci studied nature as a painter and as a scientist.
Leonardo da Vinci undestood or tried to understand all phenomena in the world around him. He thought of inventions such as parachute, tank , camera , paddleboat , flying machines, helicopter, many centuries before they actually exist .
Amboise : the Royal Castle
Leonardo was born , on April 15, 1452 , in a small Toscan village called Vinci, which gave him its name. Leonardo da Vinci was the illegitimate son of the village's lawyer and of his servant , Catarina Vacca .
Leonardo da Vinci ended his life in France in the Clos Luce Manor house , near Amboise in Loire Valley. The King Francois I during his wars in Italy was seduced by the New Art of Renaissance and invited Leonardo da Vinci to France in 1516. Leonardo da Vinci was honored with the King’s benefaction. The master was given the "Manoir du Cloux" , today " Clos Luce Manor", nearby the Royal Castle of Amboise and a pension of 700 golden crowns per year. The King Francois I asked for nothing in return , only the pleasure of listening to Leonardo da Vinci converse. The king could come secretly in the Clos Luce using an underground passage connecting the manor to the Royal Castle , giving the King a direct access to the home of the master Leonardo da Vinci.
When he was young , the King Francois 1 used to play ball or war games with friends in the grounds of this medieval manor of Clos Luce.
